Industry moves: Harbourfront Wealth grabs 13 from Manulife Wealth

Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.

  • Harbourfront Wealth Management has scored 13 advisors and another 13 support staff from Manulife Wealth, forming a new west Toronto branch. Joining the firm are a mix of experienced financial planners, portfolio managers, investment advisors and insurance agents who collectively manage more than $1.1 billion in assets. They include Kelly Fagundes, Joe Silva, Joe Pinto, Paul Polyviou, Richard Marques, John Drake, Gilda Gomes da Costa, Fernando Da Silva, John Gomes, Ziad Musharbash, Harbs Singh Gill, Rick Iannucci and Andrew Arthur Fox. Many of the team were previously with Wellington West Financial Services Inc. before it was merged with Manulife Securities in 2012.
  • Steven Krupica, a senior wealth advisor and portfolio manager, has joined National Bank Financial, bringing his Tempus Wealth team with him from CIBC Wood Gundy. Krupica has more than 30 years of experience in the investment industry. His team of nine includes portfolio managers Andrew Bosomworth and Warren Lo.
  • Curtis Kimpton has been named chair of Advocis. Kimpton is a senior wealth advisor at Wellington-Altus Private Wealth and has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. He succeeds Al Jones, who will continue to have a role as past chair. Four new directors have also been elected to Advocis’ board, including Tannis Dawson, vice-president and high net worth planner at TD Wealth; Kelly Ho, partner and financial planner at DLD Financial Group Ltd.; Chris Hudson a financial planner at B&C Financial and Estate Planning Services Ltd.; and Tina Tehranchian, senior wealth advisor at Assante Capital Management Ltd.
  • Linda Halley has been named chief risk officer at the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP). She’s been a vice-president and controller with the organization for 24 years. Mary Abbott, HOOPP’s chief legal officer, has taken on added responsibilities overseeing enterprise, operational and investment risk, along with corporate strategy.
  • Justin Lord has been named chief investment officer of the Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo). Lord has served in several roles at AIMCo since 2012, including senior executive managing director and global head of public markets.
  • WeathONE Bank of Canada has a new board of directors following the closing of its acquisition by a consortium of investors led by Globalive Capital Inc. John Webster, former head of Scotiabank’s mortgage business, has been named chair. Other board members are Daniel Burns, a lawyer and former chair of Central 1 Credit Union; Jason Cave, a former executive leader with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.; Simon Lockie, chief legal officer at Globalive; Matthew McGrath, president and CEO of Optimize Financial Group; Gary Selke, president of Cypress Hill Capital; and WealthONE president and CEO Paul Leonard. The board also includes previous WealthONE board members Tuula Jalasjaa, founder of The Women’s Collection, and private equity leader Alfred Lau.
