We help readers cut through the noise, offering practical ideas and tools for investments, tax and estate planning, insurance, regulation and practice management. We believe a better-informed advisor is a better advisor.

Who we are

Advisor.ca has been informing and educating Canadian financial advisors since 1998, when Advisor’s Edge magazine first launched. Our website, Advisor.ca, debuted two years later and has become an industry-leading source of news and analysis for credentialed, client-facing financial professionals. Today, Advisor.ca reaches more than 110,000 readers every month.

Advisor.ca is owned by Newcom Media Inc., a family-run B2B publishing business with an unwavering commitment to journalistic excellence and ethics.

Editorial Team


Kevin Press is editorial director for Advisor.ca and its sister publication, Investment Executive. For nearly three decades, Press has led editorial and marketing teams in Canada’s financial services sector. He served as associate editor on the team that launched Advisor.ca’s predecessor, Advisor’s Edge, in 1998.

Alisha Hiyate is managing editor with Advisor.ca and Investment Executive. She has 19 years of journalism experience covering mining and markets, most recently as editor-in-chief of The Northern Miner. She joined Advisor.ca in 2024.

Katie Keir has been reporting on financial services and business trends for 15 years. She’s managed Investment Executive’s Report Card series since 2018 but has written features and managed projects for both IE and Advisor.ca throughout her career. Her current expertise is tracking wealth management business trends and advisor development themes, presenting through research a look at the advisor experience. She also consults on other research projects within Newcom Media. She holds an Honours Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto and attended the publishing certificate program at what is now Toronto Metropolitan University. She was named Best New Journalist by the Canadian Business Media Awards in 2013.

Allan Janssen is an award-winning journalist and the host of Soundbites, a podcast for investment advisors. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism at Toronto Metropolitan University and has worked at several Canadian newspapers, including The Listowel BannerThe Cobourg Daily StarThe Hamilton Journal, and The Peterborough Examiner. After a brief stint monitoring media in England and teaching journalism in Zimbabwe, he spent several years in South Africa editing consumer and trade magazines, most notably Food & Home magazine. Allan joined Newcom Media Inc., the parent company of Advisor.ca, in 1995 as editor of Automotive Parts & Technology magazine. At Newcom, he founded Canadian Technician magazine, CARS magazine and was the host of the In the Shop and Auto Service World Conversations podcasts. He joined Advisor.ca in 2020.

Noushin Ziafati has been the associate editor for Advisor.ca and its sister publication, Investment Executive since 2024. She covers financial products and practice management. She also writes informative personal finance articles that advisors can send to their clients. Noushin holds a bachelor of journalism from Toronto Metropolitan University and has worked at several news outlets including the CBC, Canadian Press, CTV News, Telegraph-Journal and Chronicle Herald. In 2021, she received a gold Atlantic Journalism Award in the newspaper feature category for a story she wrote about an asylum seeker working at a long-term care institution in Nova Scotia that was rocked by Covid-19.

Jonathan Got is an Ottawa-based reporter for Advisor.ca. He graduated from Carleton University’s Master of Journalism program where he received awards in television and agriculture journalism. He previously worked as a reporter on the innovation economy for The Logic and his byline has appeared in more than 20 Canadian newspapers. He enjoys learning about personal finance, admiring architecture and skating on Ottawa’s Rideau Canal. Jonathan joined the team in 2023.

Roland Inacay is a research journalist for Investment Executive. He’s been a member of the Report Card series research team since 2021, interviewing advisors and collecting data annually for the research project. He’s also written stories about technology trends in the financial advice space and on topics such as succession and contingency planning by advisors. He holds an Advanced Diploma in Journalism from Centennial College and volunteered at 680 NEWS (now CityNews) as a digital editor with a focus on creating social media content.
