LLQP exam fees going up next month in Ontario

Durham College, which administers the Life Licence Qualification Program (LLQP) exam in Ontario, is boosting its exam fees.

The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) announced that the LLQP exam fee is going up, as of Aug. 1.

Currently, the college charges $40 for in-person exams and $66 for online exams. Those prices will be rising to $65 and $82 per exam, respectively, next month.

“The new fees reflect rising technology and business costs,” FSRA said in a release.

Earlier this year, the regulator said it was tightening test-taking procedures, following reports of widespread cheating on the LLQP, as well as imposing tougher penalties on those suspected of cheating on the exams.

FSRA’s action came in response to new guidance on exam administration that was adopted by the Canadian Insurance Services Regulatory Organizations in late 2023 in an effort to combat cheating and improve the integrity of testing procedures.

The Ontario regulator said it wanted to alert LLQP course providers and the industry to the planned increase in exam fees “in advance so they can communicate this update to insurance agent candidates.”
